Cyprus power grid stability report

The Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSM) has confirmed that the national electricity grid is currently operating with a full surplus, as electricity demand has begun to trend downward. Haris Zavallis, Assistant Director of the National Energy Control Center, stated that while temperatures are expected to hover around 39 degrees Celsius, the grid faces no stability issues. Midday demand is projected to reach approximately 1,200 MW, with an anticipated decrease to between 950 and 1,000 MW during the evening hours.

System reliability is supported by a stable conventional generation capacity of 1,251 MW, supplemented by a high contribution from photovoltaic energy. These reserves are sufficient to cover current consumption and provide buffers for potential technical failures. The record peak demand for the year was observed on July 23, reaching 1,372 MW at 14:45, with an evening load of 1,099 MW at 20:00.

Energy officials expect this year’s peak demand to remain below the July 23 record for the remainder of the summer season. The infrastructure remains secure, with no expected shortages or power supply challenges anticipated as the grid transitions into late August.
