Paphos launches marine pollution surveillance and city cleaning initiatives

The Paphos Municipality has officially launched its first organised programme for the prevention and detection of marine pollution. Under a new four-month contract, a specialised provider will conduct daily vessel patrols along the coastal front of Paphos and Yeroskipou, operating morning and afternoon shifts seven days a week. The initiative focuses on identifying and managing oil spills, sewage, and solid waste, with the contractor equipped to execute immediate containment and clean-up measures in coordination with local authorities.

Simultaneously, the municipality is continuing a city-wide cleaning campaign overseen by acting Mayor Angelos Onisiforou. This project involves the systematic cleaning and disinfection of public bins and surrounding areas, both in the city centre and along the coast. These efforts are part of a broader, long-term strategy designed to improve the urban environment for residents and visitors. The municipality plans to maintain these cleaning operations as a consistent daily priority to ensure the city remains well-maintained and hygienic.
