Sixty products identified as safety risks in Cyprus

On August 10, 2026, the Cyprus Consumer Protection Service announced that 60 products posing health and safety risks have been registered within the European Union's Safety Gate system. These items were initially identified in various EU member states and subsequently flagged to alert authorities and the public across the bloc.

To ensure local market compliance, the 60 products have been distributed among eight specialized Cypriot government authorities for investigation. Specifically, 17 products were assigned to the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services, 16 to the Consumer Protection Service, 13 to the Department of Labour Inspection, eight to the Road Transport Department, two to the Health Services, and two to the Department of Environment. Additionally, the Mines Service and the Ministry of Interior's Building Products sector each received one product for oversight.

The authorities have urged consumers to consult the Safety Gate website, which is available in Greek, to identify dangerous items and cease their use. Businesses are instructed to immediately withdraw these products from the market and cooperate with the relevant authorities regarding returns, while consumers are encouraged to return purchased hazardous items to the retailers where they were bought.
