Eurostat releases 2025 employment data on firefighters and online ticket purchases
New data from Eurostat reveals key statistics regarding European employment in the fire services sector and consumer behavior in online event ticket purchasing for 2025. In Cyprus, the number of professional firefighters reached 1,200, representing 0.24% of total employment. This figure surpasses the EU average of 0.18%. Across the European Union, there were 372,400 professional firefighters, with a notably younger workforce profile compared to the general labor market; 74.7% of these professionals are under the age of 50, whereas this age group makes up 64.4% of the total EU workforce. Among the 22 member states reporting data, Greece recorded the highest concentration of firefighters at 0.47%, while the Netherlands reported the lowest at 0.05%.
In a separate report, Eurostat highlighted trends in online commerce, specifically regarding event tickets. In 2025, 26.8% of individuals in the EU purchased tickets online, marking a 3.8 percentage point increase from 2024. Cyprus performed above this EU average. Ireland led the member states with 51.5% of citizens purchasing tickets online, followed by the Netherlands and Denmark. Bulgaria, Romania, and Italy recorded the lowest participation rates in this digital activity.
