Evacuation of Seagate building in Limassol remains pending amid legal delays

The Limassol District Self-Government Organization (EOA) is currently awaiting a resolution regarding the evacuation of the Seagate residential building, located in the tourist area of Germasogeia. The evacuation, which was initially requested on May 20, remains stalled due to a pending hierarchical appeal filed by the owner, who challenges the classification of the structure as dangerous.

Giannis Tsouloftas, President of the EOA, stated that the organization is preparing a detailed report to submit to the Minister of Interior by the end of August. This document aims to justify the assessment of the building's structural integrity. Mr. Tsouloftas noted that current legal mechanisms are proving to be inefficient and time-consuming, a concern that gained significant public attention following a building collapse in the region on April 11.

Once the report is submitted, the Minister of Interior, acting as the review authority, will determine whether the building should be officially declared dangerous and forced to evacuate. For now, safety procedures remain in limbo as authorities work to navigate the existing legal challenges surrounding the property.
