Construction permits in Cyprus surge during early 2026

Cyprus has recorded a significant surge in construction activity during the first four months of 2026, according to data released by the Statistical Service on August 10, 2026. Between January and April 2026, authorities issued 2,915 building permits, representing a 35.1% increase compared to the 2,157 permits issued during the same period in 2025. This growth reflects broader momentum in the real estate and land development sectors.

The economic impact of these permits is substantial, with the total value reaching €1.7 billion, a 46.1% increase year-on-year. The total area covered by these developments rose by 45.5% to 1.5 million square meters, while the number of residential units planned increased by 65.0%, totaling 7,131 compared to 4,321 in the previous year. Specifically for April 2026, 639 permits were issued, a 10.7% rise over April 2025, with a total valuation of €413 million.
