Internal conflict escalates within the Democratic National Movement

A severe internal conflict within the Democratic National Movement (DEK) has escalated as party president Andreas Themistokleous issued a statement accusing four party officials of attempting to undermine his leadership. Themistokleous, who claims he has been locked out of the party’s official communication channels, including its website and social media accounts, transmitted his statement via a personal message from the party spokesperson.

The core of the dispute involves allegations regarding financial transparency and administrative control. Themistokleous asserts that a financial audit was successfully conducted on August 7 at the party's headquarters in Limassol, where accounts for 2025 and 2026 were presented. Conversely, the party leadership is demanding that General Organizational Secretary Andreas Sotiriou return specific receipt books. Furthermore, Themistokleous alleges that four dissenting officials tampered with a letter sent to the Registrar of Political Parties regarding 2025 financial contributions, while the opposing faction continues to question the overall legitimacy of party financial management.

As the situation remains fluid, the party maintains that no financial information was withheld during the audit. The ongoing confrontation highlights deep structural divisions regarding control over party assets and official documentation, with both sides currently accusing each other of procedural misconduct and lack of transparency.
