Ministry of Education staff demand resolution of employment issues

Indefinite and fixed-term staff at the Ministry of Education, Sport, and Youth (YPAN) in Cyprus have issued a formal demand for their grievances to be addressed within 15 days. In a letter addressed to the Ministers of Education and Labor, the Educational Service Commission, and relevant parliamentary committees, employees warned that they would resort to institutional and collective measures if their concerns are not resolved effectively. The staff are calling for the recognition and calculation of service time within the DRA.S.E. program and across all ministry support programs, alongside clear information regarding the future of the State Institutes of Further Education.

Key demands include the establishment of a closed roster for experienced workers, prioritizing current staff for new vacancies, and securing salaries for indefinite-term employees. Furthermore, staff are requesting the clarification and protection of their leave rights and the timely commencement of all support programs for the upcoming period. This ultimatum serves as a formal notice that the employees are prepared to pursue further industrial or legal action should the ministry fail to provide a substantive response within the specified two-week window.
