Ministry of Education support staff demand resolution of employment issues

On August 12, 2026, employees working under indefinite and fixed-term contracts for the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth's support programs staged a protest at the Ministry to formally submit a memorandum. The delegation handed the document to the Ministry's Director General, Marios Panagidis. The workers are demanding a response to their grievances within 15 days, warning of further collective and institutional actions if their concerns remain unaddressed.

Key demands include the recognition and counting of prior service, particularly within the DRA.SE program, clarification on the future of state training institutes, and consistent wage protection. Furthermore, the employees are calling for a closed list of experienced staff to be prioritized for staffing needs, transparency in hiring procedures, and the formalization of leave rights, unemployment benefits, and pension entitlements. The workers insist on an official meeting with state authorities to comprehensively review these problems.

Director General Marios Panagidis stated that the Ministry is in ongoing contact with workers' representatives and unions. He noted that recent legislation regarding the conversion of eligible contracts into indefinite-term status is being implemented, and the Ministry is working to issue new job postings as quickly as possible to ensure the continuation of all support programs.
