ALMA movement holds meeting with Finance Minister Makis Keravnos

Odysseas Michaelides, head of the ALMA Citizens for Cyprus movement, and political planning officer Panagiotis Evangelidis met with Finance Minister Makis Keravnos on August 10, 2026. The discussions focused on three key pillars: pension reform, public service restructuring, and the status of the Great Sea Interconnector project.

Regarding the pension system, the movement emphasized the necessity of reforms that improve benefits for low-income retirees while maintaining the long-term sustainability of the Social Insurance Fund. On public sector reform, the participants discussed organizational changes aimed at better human resource management and enhanced service delivery for citizens. Regarding the Great Sea Interconnector, ALMA reiterated its stance that any decision leading to major, long-term financial obligations for the Republic of Cyprus and its consumers must rely on fully substantiated, updated data regarding the technical and economic viability of the project.

This meeting is part of the ongoing dialogue between the movement and the government concerning Cyprus's major policy agendas. The parties exchanged views on how to improve state operations, although no immediate legislative decisions were finalized, as the discussion serves as a platform for alignment on future socioeconomic policies.
