Dimitris Giannakopoulos reveals failed bid for Nikola Jokic

Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos recently revealed in a podcast interview that he attempted to sign Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic. During his appearance on the EuroInsiders podcast, Giannakopoulos stated that he had contacted Jokic’s agent, Misko Raznatovic, and the Denver Nuggets to propose a buyout of the Serbian player's final contract year. According to the club owner, the offer was immediately rejected by the NBA franchise.

Despite the initial failure, Giannakopoulos expressed his ambition to pursue the reigning star again in the future, describing Jokic as the best player in the world. He acknowledged the logistical difficulty of integrating such a high-profile player given the team's current roster structure. While the Panathinaikos owner remains determined, international reports indicate that Jokic is likely awaiting the 2027 offseason, when he could potentially sign a record-breaking five-year extension worth approximately $359.5 million, marking the largest contract in NBA history.
