APOEL signs Argentine midfielder Facundo Perez

APOEL Nicosia has officially confirmed the signing of 27-year-old Argentine central midfielder Facundo Perez from the Argentine club Lanus. The transfer, which was finalized on August 11, 2026, marks the eighth acquisition for the Cypriot side during the current summer transfer window. Perez, who was born on July 31, 1999, in Buenos Aires, previously gained experience in European football playing for the Greek clubs Panetolikos and AEL Larissa.

The acquisition of Perez is part of a broader effort to restructure the APOEL roster. Club officials Zisis Vryzas and Nikos Papadopoulos are continuing to oversee the team's development. Following this signing, the club's management has confirmed that work remains to be done to finalize three additional key positions. These include the acquisition of a goalkeeper to compete with current number one Vid Belec, a creative "number 8" midfielder, and a new forward to strengthen the attack.

While the club considers the goalkeeper position a priority, management has emphasized that they are not seeking a direct replacement for 36-year-old Vid Belec, who remains the first choice. Instead, they aim to secure a high-quality backup who can provide meaningful competition and ensure a smooth transition for the future. The team continues its search, having previously evaluated candidates such as Yuri Lodygin, Devis Epassy, and Alexandros Paschalakis without reaching an agreement.
