Cultural decentralization program events in Cyprus for August 2026

Throughout mid-August 2026, the Cypriot government is hosting a series of cultural events under the 2026 Cultural Decentralisation Programme, aimed at bringing arts to rural villages. Highlights include a rebetiko music tribute featuring acclaimed musician Giorgos Tzortzis, visiting locations such as Koilani, Mitsero, Prasteio Avdimou, and Arsos. Other performances focus on the history of the three-stringed bouzouki and traditional Cypriot music, featuring artists like Michalis and Petros Kouloumis.

Simultaneously, major musical performances are taking place, including a concert by singer-songwriter Alkinoos Ioannidis at the Kyriakou Pelagia Municipal Amphitheatre in Paralimni on August 12, supported by musicians Marios Takousis, Lefteris Moumtzis, Yiannis Koutis, and Nikolas Tsangaris. Another key initiative is the experiential workshop 'Nature, sun, and cyanotype in the village,' led by artist Eleni Filippou. This workshop, which teaches the 1842 non-camera photographic technique, is scheduled for Pedoulas on August 13 and Agios Theodoros Pitsilias on August 14, with subsequent dates extending into October.

These events are designed to highlight local heritage and engage rural communities through music, traditional arts, and historical education. Most activities are open to the public, with some workshops requiring prior registration.
