Escalating cross-border strikes result in civilian casualties and facility damage

Between August 11 and 13, 2026, intensified hostilities between Russia and Ukraine led to significant civilian casualties and destruction of critical infrastructure on both sides. In Ukraine, Russian forces launched large-scale missile and drone strikes against Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, and the Dnipropetrovsk region. In Zaporizhzhia, at least six people were killed and over 100 injured, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy citing the use of North Korean ballistic missiles, Zircon missiles, and guided bombs. Additional strikes in the Dnipropetrovsk region killed three, including a 15-year-old, and damaged various buildings.

Simultaneously, Ukraine conducted retaliatory operations deep within Russian territory. Ukrainian drones and missiles targeted the naval base in Novorossiysk, where the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported damaging three warships, including the frigates Admiral Essen and Admiral Makarov. Russian authorities confirmed three deaths and 24 injuries in the Krasnodar region during these attacks. Other Ukrainian drone strikes hit an oil refinery in Orsk and caused power outages in Sevastopol, Crimea, following a mass drone operation targeting local energy infrastructure. Russia also conducted strikes against the port of Izmail in Odesa, damaging agricultural export facilities. Both nations continue to assess the strategic damage while combat operations remain ongoing across the front lines.
