Fuel tank destroyed in attack at Zawiya refinery in Libya

A massive gasoline storage tank was destroyed in an attack on Monday night at the Zawiya oil refinery in northwestern Libya. The Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) reported that the structure, identified as tank 402-T and owned by Brega Oil Marketing, was directly targeted by unknown assailants. The tank contained approximately 4.5 million liters of gasoline, causing a severe fire and its eventual collapse. This incident poses a significant threat to the facility, which is the second largest in Libya with a processing capacity of 120,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

This assault follows a series of recent attacks in the area, situated 45 kilometers west of Tripoli. On Saturday, a drone strike hit a diesel storage tank at the same refinery, while on Sunday, a nearby water desalination plant was also targeted. The National Oil Corporation condemned these acts of sabotage, which threaten critical infrastructure and the safety of the surrounding population. Emergency response teams, including fire and civil protection units, are currently working to manage the situation and prevent further damage to neighboring installations.
