Cyprus police conduct nationwide security operations resulting in six arrests
Overnight on August 10 to 11, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of coordinated security operations across the country. The initiative aimed to prevent criminal activity, maintain public order, and increase the public sense of security.
The operation resulted in the arrest of six individuals for various offenses, including illegal drug possession, illegal residence in the Republic of Cyprus, and begging. Police officers checked 639 drivers and 241 passengers. Additionally, 45 inspections of business premises were carried out, leading to 19 formal complaints. Traffic enforcement was a major focus, with 210 reports issued, including 72 for speeding. Authorities also conducted 145 alcohol tests, identifying eight drivers under the influence, and impounded nine vehicles for various traffic violations.
These measures serve as part of an ongoing state effort to reduce delinquency and enforce traffic regulations across the island. The police authorities indicated that these operations are part of routine preventive actions aimed at curbing criminal trends and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
