Police conduct island-wide crime prevention operations

Cypriot police conducted a series of coordinated, island-wide operations across several nights in August 2026 to prevent serious crime and maintain public order. These targeted patrols focused on key urban locations, resulting in varying numbers of arrests and citations. On the night of August 10, authorities arrested six individuals for offenses including drug possession and illegal residency. Subsequent operations on August 11 resulted in 17 arrests for various charges such as weapon possession, assault on a police officer, and theft, while a separate operation on August 12 led to 10 arrests for drug possession, forgery, and public drunkenness.

During these intensive checks, police stopped hundreds of vehicles and conducted numerous inspections of business premises. Traffic enforcement was a primary component of these operations, with hundreds of citations issued, the majority of which were for speeding. Authorities also conducted alcohol breathalyzer tests, impounded multiple vehicles, and opened several investigations into ongoing traffic violations. These actions were aimed at curbing illegal activity and increasing the public's sense of security through a heightened police presence.
