Cyprus transitions to mandatory digital social insurance payments

As of August 3, 2026, Cyprus has shifted to a mandatory electronic payment system for social insurance contributions. Employers and self-employed individuals are now required to use the SISnet online system provided by the Social Insurance Services. A significant change in this transition is the requirement for users to authenticate via CY Login, a centralized identity management platform that provides access to various Cypriot government digital services. Older login credentials previously used by contributors have been deactivated.

This initiative is part of a broader government strategy to unify access to digital public services. However, the transition has triggered widespread complaints, particularly from elderly employers who hire domestic helpers. Many of these individuals lack existing CY Login accounts and struggle with the technical requirements of the new digital interface. Reports indicate that those unfamiliar with online processes are facing significant difficulties in fulfilling their payment obligations under the new system.
