Documentary examines the case of Cyprus's first serial killer

Nearly seven years after the discovery of a series of crimes that shocked Cyprus, a new seven-part documentary titled 'Pleiades' has been released on ERTFLIX. The production features testimonies from investigators, forensic experts, and relatives of the victims, revisiting the timeline and the systemic failures that characterized the initial police response. The case first gained public attention in October 2016, following the disappearance of Livia Bunea and her daughter, Elena. At the time, journalists from the Sigma TV program 'Mesimeri kai Kati' inquired about the missing persons, but authorities publicly claimed that a thorough investigation had been conducted and that the mother had left voluntarily with her belongings. Contrary to these official claims, the documentary presents testimony from the landlord of their apartment in Agios Pavlos, who alleges that police officers refused to enter the premises, citing that such disappearances were common occurrences. This discrepancy between police reports and witness accounts remains a focal point in understanding how the serial killer went undetected for an extended period.
