University of Cyprus to offer 100 rooms to new students amid expansion plans

The University of Cyprus announced that 100 dormitory rooms will be made available to incoming students for the upcoming academic year, based on specific socioeconomic criteria. According to Kleanthis Pissarides, head of the university’s academic affairs and student welfare service, the institution expects to welcome approximately 1,300 new students when classes commence on September 7.

While demand for on-campus housing remains high, current availability is restricted to those meeting established eligibility requirements. To address the persistent housing shortage, the university is currently in active consultations with state authorities, including the Ministry of Finance, regarding the construction of new dormitory facilities.

Pissarides noted that once these planning procedures conclude and agreements are finalized, the first phase of the new dormitory project is estimated to take approximately two years to complete. Until such facilities are operational, the university continues to manage student welfare through established aid funds to assist those in need.
