University of Cyprus to provide student housing based on socioeconomic criteria

The University of Cyprus has announced it will allocate 100 rooms in its student dormitories to incoming students for the upcoming academic year. According to Kleanthis Pissaridis, Head of the Academic Affairs and Student Welfare Service, these rooms will be distributed based on specific socioeconomic criteria. While there is a high demand for on-campus housing, the university is currently prioritizing those who meet the established financial and social requirements.

The university anticipates welcoming approximately 1,300 new students when classes commence on September 7. Officials noted that this intake is consistent with figures from previous years. Addressing the shortage of accommodation, the university administration is currently in consultations with relevant authorities regarding the construction of new student residence facilities to better meet the growing demand in the future.

Kleanthis Pissaridis emphasized that while the university acknowledges the gap between available housing and student interest, the current distribution model remains focused on assisting the most vulnerable applicants. Further developments regarding future expansion projects are expected as consultations continue.
