Cypriot athletes compete at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham
The 27th European Athletics Championships held in Birmingham, United Kingdom, featured several Cypriot athletes between August 11 and 12, 2026. Loizos Chrysostomou marked his debut in the high jump competition, finishing 24th out of 26 participants after clearing 2.10 meters.
Milan Trajkovic delivered a notable performance for Cyprus in the 110-meter hurdles. He successfully navigated the first round with a time of 13.50 seconds and advanced to the semifinals, where he secured his place in the final by finishing second in his heat with a time of 13.40 seconds. In the final, Trajkovic finished eighth with a time of 13.87 seconds. The event was won by Swiss athlete Jason Joseph, who clocked 13.12 seconds, followed by Just Kwaou-Mathey of France and Jakub Szymanski of Poland.
Following the progression of the championships, additional Cypriot athletes including Kalliopi Kountouri, Grigoris Nikolaou, and Andranik Sarkis Astzian were scheduled to make their respective tournament debuts on August 12, aiming for personal bests and international experience.
