On the evening of Monday, August 10, 2026, police authorities in Larnaca arrested a 43-year-old man on charges of begging. Members of the Crime Prevention Unit (OPE) observed the individual soliciting money from drivers at the intersection of Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue and Papanikoli Street.
Following his detention in flagrante delicto, the man was transported to the local Minor Offences Department. During a search of his person, officers discovered an undisclosed sum of cash in his possession. The individual was formally charged in writing and subsequently released. He is expected to be summoned to appear before a court to face charges for the offence at a later date.
While most reports simply cite the location as Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue, the Cyprus Times clarified the specific intersection involving Papanikoli Street. The operation is part of ongoing police efforts to monitor and address minor offenses occurring in public spaces.
