Larnaca police handle two separate arrests involving begging and burglary

On the evening of Monday, August 10, 2026, Larnaca police arrested a 43-year-old man for begging at the intersection of Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue and Papanikoli street. The suspect was apprehended in flagrante delicto by members of the Crime Prevention Unit (OPE) while soliciting money from drivers. Following his arrest, the man was taken to the station, formally charged in writing, and released to be summoned for a future court appearance.

In a separate incident early on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the same unit arrested a 34-year-old Syrian national who was cycling suspiciously through Larnaca at 1:45 a.m. During a search of his backpack, officers discovered a set of burglary tools, several silver-plated items, and other objects suspected to be stolen. The man was taken into custody for unlawful possession of property and possession of burglary tools. Authorities confirmed he was scheduled to appear in court on the same day for a remand hearing.
