UEFA launches Clear Line platform for standardized refereeing decisions

On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the European football community introduced Clear Line, a comprehensive digital platform designed to improve the consistency, clarity, and transparency of refereeing decisions. All 55 national football associations, including the Cyprus Football Association (KOP), have officially endorsed the platform as a foundational framework for officiating standards.

The system acts as a centralized reference guide for referees and officials across both national leagues and UEFA competitions. It contains a database of more than 150 specific match scenarios, offering detailed interpretations of the Laws of the Game. Additionally, the platform provides precise protocols on the application of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, clearly outlining the criteria for when VAR intervention is required and when it should be avoided.

Heads of Refereeing from all member associations have formally approved the tool to ensure a unified approach to match officiating. By providing standardized guidelines, the initiative aims to minimize discrepancies in refereeing standards throughout European football.
