Concerns over water pollution along the Limassol coastline

As of August 2026, residents and local officials in Limassol are raising urgent concerns regarding persistent marine pollution along the city's coastline. Reports and social media posts, particularly from the Dasoudi area, feature photographs and videos showing foams, debris, and solid waste in the water. Local official Tsikkini has publicly questioned the current state of sewage infrastructure, demanding transparency regarding discharge permits for major developments and the operational efficiency of waste treatment facilities, such as the station at Vati.

While some citizens attribute the pollution to private boats, cruise vessels, and commercial ships currently at anchor, others are demanding that authorities, including the Shipping Deputy Ministry and the Municipality of Limassol, conduct immediate investigations. The debate highlights a growing friction between the city's status as a luxury real estate and investment hub and the environmental quality of its beaches.
