Cyprus state employee figures increase in July 2026

In July 2026, the number of state employees in Cyprus reached 53,747, marking an increase of 300 individuals (0.6%) compared to July 2025. Data released by the Statistical Service indicates varying trends across different sectors: while public service employment saw a decrease of 1.0%, the educational service and security forces recorded growth of 2.6% and 0.7%, respectively.

The most notable shift within the workforce is a 1.7% increase in indefinite-term contract employees (EAX), while hourly staff experienced a slight reduction of 0.1%. A significant discrepancy is observed in the security forces, where the number of fixed-term contract staff (EOX) plummeted by 99.6%. This sharp decline is attributed to the expiration of specific fixed-term contracts that were not renewed after August 2025. Conversely, the educational sector saw a 25.7% surge in indefinite-term contract personnel. For the cumulative period of January through July 2026, the average number of state employees increased by 0.3% compared to the same period in 2025, highlighting a broader trend of administrative expansion.
