Cyprus ranks third in EU for temporary protection of Ukrainian refugees

According to data released by Eurostat on August 11, 2026, Cyprus maintains the third-highest ratio of Ukrainian temporary protection beneficiaries in the European Union, with 26.8 individuals per 1,000 inhabitants. As of June 2026, the country was hosting 31,690 individuals, a figure that remains stable compared to the 31,620 recorded in May 2026. The highest ratios in the bloc were reported in the Czech Republic at 35.8 per 1,000 residents, followed by Slovakia at 27.2.

Across the European Union, the total number of non-EU citizens who fled Ukraine and were under temporary protection reached 4.41 million by June 30, 2026, representing a 0.6% increase since the end of May. Germany remains the primary host country, accommodating 1,286,230 people, which accounts for 29.2% of the total EU population under this status. Poland follows with 961,170 beneficiaries (21.8%), and the Czech Republic with 390,810 (8.9%). The EU-wide average currently stands at 9.8 beneficiaries per 1,000 inhabitants, significantly lower than the ratios observed in the leading host nations.
