British bases police report 27 arrests during summer operations

Over the past week, the Sovereign Base Area (SBA) police in Cyprus conducted intensive summer operations across both eastern and western base sectors. These coordinated efforts resulted in 27 arrests for various offences and were designed to bolster road safety, maintain public order, and provide security to local communities during the peak of the holiday season.

Key statistics from the enforcement campaign include 158 fixed penalty notices and written cautions issued for traffic violations, alongside 17 active investigations into more serious traffic offences. Additionally, 73 breathalyser tests were administered, resulting in seven positive cases. The operation also featured the Marine Unit, which utilized newly acquired jet skis to monitor and protect beachgoers.

Temporary Superintendent of Dhekelia, Marcos Petrou, confirmed that these heightened police operations will continue throughout the current week. Authorities are focusing resources on periods and locations with high human traffic. As a precautionary measure, officials have advised the public to remain vigilant against theft while visiting coastal areas during the upcoming weekend.
