Four-year-old girl saved after falling from balcony in Poland
A four-year-old girl was rescued in Lomza, Poland, on August 10, 2026, after falling from a fifth-floor balcony. Alert bystanders spotted the child climbing on the railing and held a blanket beneath the building to break her fall just as she lost her balance. The child was subsequently transported to a hospital in Bialystok, where, according to reports, she sustained minimal injuries.
The investigation revealed that the girl had been left unsupervised on the balcony for approximately one hour. Her 27-year-old mother was discovered sleeping inside the apartment under the influence of alcohol. While neighbors had attempted to force entry into the apartment to reach the child, the onlookers below successfully managed to mitigate the impact of the fall with the makeshift safety device.
Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident to address the circumstances of the child’s endangerment. While one initial report incorrectly identified the location as Greece, Polish sources confirm the event occurred in the city of Lomza. Legal proceedings regarding the mother's conduct are expected to follow as the investigation proceeds.
