Two swimmers rescued off Limassol coast

On the afternoon of Monday, 10 August 2026, two 18-year-old swimmers were rescued by lifeguards off the coast of Limassol, Cyprus. The incident took place at approximately 4:15 pm within the LEM 0 lifeguard zone, situated opposite the Limassol Zoo.

The swimmers, an 18-year-old couple, entered deeper waters while attempting to retrieve a ball that had been carried away by strong winds and sea currents. They were quickly swept into an area characterized by a sudden drop in depth, which placed them in immediate danger of drowning. Two lifeguards stationed at the nearby tower observed the situation and deployed a rescue board. Initially, one lifeguard reached the pair; however, due to the challenging sea conditions, the second lifeguard joined the operation. Both individuals were successfully towed back to the shore without sustaining injuries or requiring medical intervention.

In the aftermath of the rescue, the Limassol Lifeguard Unit issued an official advisory. Authorities are urging the public to strictly follow the instructions of lifeguards and to refrain from attempting to retrieve floating objects during periods of strong winds and hazardous sea conditions.
