Two teenagers rescued from drowning in Limassol

On Monday, August 10, 2026, two 18-year-old swimmers of African descent were rescued from drowning in the LEM 0 lifeguarding area, located opposite the Limassol Zoo. The incident occurred around 16:15 when the pair attempted to retrieve a ball that had drifted away from the supervised swimming zone. Strong winds and sea currents pulled the teenagers into deep waters, placing them in immediate danger.

Two lifeguards from the LEM 0 tower observed the struggle and responded immediately using a rescue board. One lifeguard successfully secured both individuals onto the board, while the second lifeguard assisted shortly after to navigate the challenging sea conditions and tow the group safely to shore. Following their rescue, it was determined that both teenagers were in good health and did not require hospitalization or further medical intervention. The swift intervention by the lifeguard unit prevented a potential tragedy.
