Community of Kyperounta mourns the passing of Father Ioannis
Father Ioannis Ioannou, a beloved priest who served the community of Kyperounta for over three decades, passed away on August 11, 2026, following a battle with cancer. Born in 1964, he was a pivotal figure in the village's spiritual and social life, overseeing the completion of the Holy Church of Saint Arsenios the Cappadocian and fostering educational and musical programs, including Byzantine music instruction. His dedication was widely recognized by the Community Council, which described him as a pillar of the village.
His funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, at 4:00 PM at the Church of Saint Arsenios the Cappadocian. As a mark of respect, local authorities have announced the postponement of the annual 'Astrovradia' (Starry Night) event, which had been held in the community for 50 consecutive years. The event was traditionally co-organized by the priest, who had been a key supporter of such cultural initiatives in the region throughout his tenure.
