Prominent priest Ioannis Ioannou of Kyperounta passes away

The community of Kyperounta is in mourning following the death of Protopresbyter Ioannis Ioannou, who served as the village priest for over 30 years. Born in 1964, Father Ioannis was a central figure in the ecclesiastical, social, and cultural life of the area. He contributed significantly to the renovation of local churches, with the completion of the Holy Temple of Agios Arsenios the Cappadocian standing as a testament to his service. Furthermore, he was deeply involved in educational activities, including the instruction of Byzantine music and the guidance of Sunday schools.

Father Ioannis was ordained as a deacon in 1984 and as a presbyter in 1989, later becoming a spiritual father in 1991. He held a degree in theology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a diploma in Byzantine music from the Athens Conservatory. He is survived by his wife, Presbytera Panagiota Nearchou, and their five children: Kyriakos, Sotiria, Christina, Andreas, and Filothei.

The funeral is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 4:00 PM at the Holy Temple of Agios Arsenios the Cappadocian in Kyperounta. The Community Council has advised residents to utilize provided shuttle buses to reach the venue, as the community prepares to pay its final respects to a leader described as a pillar of the region.
