Occupational therapists' association demands clarity on Gesy integration

On August 11, 2026, the Cyprus Association of Occupational Therapists issued a formal request to the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) and the Ministry of Health, demanding transparency regarding the integration of occupational therapy into the General Health Scheme (Gesy). The association expressed significant concern over reports of "parallel arrangements" and undisclosed changes to key aspects of the proposal during the final stages of the consultation process.

Association president Despina Kaimi emphasized that professional data should not be altered without official notification, stating that consultations cannot proceed on "moving ground." The organization, which submitted a comprehensive proposal in March 2026 including technical memorandums and economic studies, is calling on authorities to ensure that no unilateral actions affect the consultation's outcome.

The integration process has spanned years across two successive governments and multiple political administrations. The association is currently seeking confirmation on what information remains valid for evaluation and insists that all institutional protocols be respected until the consultation process is officially concluded.
