Grandmother and child die in house fire in Izmir

A tragic house fire occurred on Monday afternoon in the Cigli district of Izmir, Turkey, resulting in the deaths of a 56-year-old woman and her 4-year-old grandson. The fire broke out at approximately 5:30 p.m. in a single-story detached house, prompting an immediate response from local fire brigades, ambulances, and police.

According to reports, the victim, Rezan Korkmaz, initially managed to rescue her 2-year-old grandson, Mert, from the burning building. She then re-entered the house in an attempt to save her other grandson, 4-year-old Yigit Bulut. Firefighters later discovered the bodies of the woman and the child inside the structure. It appeared that Korkmaz had tried to shield Yigit with her own body as they succumbed to the flames. The fire was brought under control and extinguished shortly after the arrival of emergency services. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the fire.
