Remedica conducts mass voluntary recall of pharmaceutical products in Cyprus

Pharmaceutical company Remedica announced a voluntary, precautionary recall of several medicinal products on August 10, 2026, due to out-of-specification results in stability tests. On August 13, the company extended this recall to include two additional batches of Clonotril 2mg. The Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) reported that 12 products are currently affected. For five of these, equivalent alternatives are available within the General Health System (GESY), while for seven others—including Clonotril, Cloxacillin, Hydralazine, Epsitron, and Methyldopa—no direct equivalent with the same active substance currently exists.

The recall has caused significant disruption, as many doctors and pharmacists are unavailable due to the mid-August holidays. Both the HIO and the Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry of Health have urged patients not to discontinue their treatment unilaterally, as the reasons for the recall do not pose an immediate threat. Authorities are working on technical solutions to allow for easier medication substitution without requiring constant new prescriptions. Meanwhile, patients are advised to contact their physicians to adjust their treatment plans, while the HIO expects to issue detailed instructions for the remaining affected products later this week.
