Public primary healthcare centers in Cyprus remain operational beyond standard hours

Public personal doctors in Cyprus continue to provide medical services well beyond the traditional 3 p.m. closing time. As of August 2026, at least one health center in every city operates until 7:30 p.m., while rural health centers maintain 24/7 on-call availability for residents. The network currently consists of 36 health centers employing 71 personal doctors who manage the care of over 75,500 beneficiaries of the General Healthcare System (GHS), a figure recorded at the end of July.

Beyond basic primary care, these facilities offer a multidisciplinary approach, with some centers hosting specialists such as pediatricians and dermatologists on scheduled days, as well as allied health professionals like physiotherapists. The patient distribution among doctors varies, with some physicians managing lists of up to 2,500 beneficiaries. This structure aims to improve accessibility for the public, particularly in remote areas where doctors remain available on a continuous basis. The organization of these services remains a critical component of the public healthcare infrastructure under the OKYpY authority, ensuring that citizens have consistent access to medical consultations throughout the day and in geographically isolated regions.
