Apollon Limassol eliminated from Conference League by Brann
Apollon Limassol’s European campaign ended on August 11, 2026, following a 2-4 defeat to Norwegian side Brann after extra time at the Alphamega Stadium. The match, part of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League, saw Apollon within seconds of qualifying before a late goal by Holm in the 90+6th minute forced the game into extra time. Despite Apollon's efforts, Brann secured the victory in the additional period, effectively ending the Cypriot team's prospects for the season.
Following the match, manager Hernan Losada expressed pride in his team's performance, noting that they had been the better side and played with significant effort. Apollon player Georgios Malekkidis expressed disappointment with the result, emphasizing that only the final outcome mattered. This loss marks the fourth consecutive year that Apollon has failed to qualify for the league phase of a European competition. Despite the exit, the club is set to receive approximately 900,000 euros in total revenue from UEFA, consisting of 175,000 euros for each of the two qualifying rounds played and a 550,000 euro bonus for the elimination at this stage.
