Car destroyed by bomb in Paphos

A car belonging to a 56-year-old man was destroyed by a low-powered improvised explosive device in the early hours of Wednesday in Paphos. The incident occurred at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Santorinis Street, causing extensive damage to the target vehicle and a second car parked in the immediate vicinity. No injuries were reported, and the scene was cordoned off for investigation by the Paphos Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances, which include reviewing potential CCTV footage from the surrounding area and taking statements. This incident marks the second time the victim has been targeted by attackers within three months. In May 2026, a bomb was detonated outside a butcher shop owned by the victim’s family, causing significant property damage. No arrests were made in connection with that previous attack.

Investigators are currently examining similarities between the two incidents to determine potential motives. The Paphos CID is seeking to identify the perpetrators and establish whether the victim had received any recent threats or had personal disputes, as they look for leads in the ongoing probe.
