PAOK nears deal for Zenit defender Vanja Drkusic
Greek football club PAOK is nearing the acquisition of 26-year-old Slovenian center-back Vanja Drkusic from Zenit Saint Petersburg. The transfer is expected to be finalized as a one-year loan agreement extending until the summer of 2027, with an option to purchase the player at the end of the term. The specific financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed as of mid-August 2026.
Drkusic, who stands 1.88 meters tall, joined Zenit in the summer of 2024 and made 28 appearances in the Russian championship during his tenure. Throughout his career, he has played for clubs including Sochi, Bravo, and Red Star Belgrade. PAOK manager Razvan Lucescu has long sought to recruit the defender, having previously shown interest in January 2026 without reaching a deal. The current move is now considered to be in its final stages.
Known for his physical defensive style and strength in duels, Drkusic is expected to provide defensive stability for the Thessaloniki team. As negotiations conclude, the player is anticipated to arrive in Greece shortly to officially sign with the club, marking the successful end to PAOK’s persistent pursuit of the international defender.
