59-year-old man arrested for starting multiple fires in Sindos

Fire investigation units of the Greek Fire Service arrested a 59-year-old man on August 11, 2026, for intentionally setting six fires in the Sindos area of Thessaloniki. The suspect is accused of repeatedly starting fires in dry grass, reeds, and agricultural lands over a four-day period beginning August 8, 2026.

According to official reports, the man set one fire on Saturday, August 8, which destroyed 20 hectares of land, and another on Sunday, August 9, destroying 15 hectares. On Tuesday, August 11, he allegedly set four additional fires in the same vicinity before being apprehended. A case file has been formed against the suspect for intentional and repeated arson, and he is being led to the public prosecutor for further legal proceedings.
