Cyprus issues yellow weather warning for extreme heat

A seasonal low-pressure system continues to affect Cyprus, with the Meteorological Department issuing a new yellow warning for extreme temperatures. The warning is effective for Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 14:00 to 16:30, as temperatures inland are expected to reach 40°C. Winds will remain light to moderate, reaching up to 5 Beaufort along the southern coast today before the weather conditions begin to shift.

From Friday, August 14, an unstable air mass is expected to move into the region. According to meteorologist Panagiotis Lingis, this shift will bring a gradual decrease in temperatures and the likelihood of isolated rain showers, starting in the mountains and progressing inland. These conditions are expected to intensify slightly over the weekend, bringing temperatures down to a more seasonal average of around 38°C. While humidity levels have been somewhat elevated in recent days, officials have confirmed they remain within non-problematic ranges. The authorities are monitoring the situation and expect the weekend weather to remain relatively mild with limited and localized rainfall.
