Cyprus weather department issues yellow heat warning for August 13

The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow weather warning for extreme temperatures affecting the island on Thursday, August 13, 2026. The alert, numbered 52, is valid from 14:00 to 16:30, during which time temperatures in inland areas are expected to reach approximately 40 degrees Celsius.

While the heatwave persists in the interior, seasonal low pressure is influencing the region, with an unstable air mass beginning to affect the island. Meteorologists expect the weather to transition from mostly clear to locally cloudy by midday and afternoon, particularly in mountainous regions, where isolated rain and thunderstorms are forecasted. Temperatures will remain at 40 degrees Celsius inland, while coastal regions will see highs between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius, and mountainous areas will reach around 29 degrees Celsius.

Looking ahead, authorities predict a slight decline in temperatures starting Friday, with conditions expected to return closer to seasonal averages over the weekend. Due to the high temperatures, the risk of forest fires remains extremely high across all forested areas of the country.
