Cyprus Ministry of Education expects school staffing to be completed by early September

The Cypriot Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth has announced that the process of staffing schools for the 2026-2027 academic year is proceeding smoothly and is expected to be finalized by early September, with only minor exceptions. According to the Ministry, the number of teachers required for primary education will increase compared to the previous 2025-2026 school year, following the approval of new staff ceilings.

In secondary general education, the total number of teachers is expected to remain stable, though the Ministry noted uncertainty regarding the potential non-renewal of contracts for teachers who were employed during the previous academic year. Similar uncertainty remains for the vocational and technical education sectors. The Ministry is currently providing hiring data to the Educational Service Commission (EEY), which remains the sole authority responsible for the official announcement of teacher appointments.
