Fourth suspect arrested in Limassol betting agency arson case

Cypriot authorities have arrested a 30-year-old Syrian man in connection with an arson attack on a betting agency in Yermasoyia, Limassol, which occurred on June 1, 2026. The suspect was apprehended by police in the Ledra area of Nicosia at approximately 9:30 a.m. on August 12, following an outstanding arrest warrant. He is scheduled to appear before the Limassol District Court on Thursday, where authorities will seek his remand to facilitate further investigations.

The incident took place at 2:50 a.m. on June 1, when a fire was intentionally set at the betting facility. Local residents managed to extinguish the blaze before it spread internally, though the storefront glass and masonry sustained damage. Two other suspects, both 20-year-old Syrian men, were previously arrested on June 1, and a 44-year-old inmate at the Central Prisons was arrested on June 4. The three previously detained individuals are facing charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, arson, and participation in a criminal organization. The case has been referred to the Limassol Assize Court. Investigators allege that the 44-year-old inmate and one of the other suspects played key roles in coordinating the criminal activity.
