Tensions escalate between the Cyprus Youth Board and NEDISY

A public confrontation has erupted between the Cyprus Youth Board (ONEK) and the Democratic Rally Youth (NEDISY) regarding the ongoing paralysis and internal crisis within the organization. On August 12, 2026, NEDISY criticized ONEK President Konstantina Achilleos, arguing that her recent public comments shifted blame onto the government and the President of the Republic for the deadlock, while ignoring the administrative failures of the organization's leadership. NEDISY asserts that the crisis is the result of long-standing internal dysfunction, legal disputes, and lack of cooperation rather than the recent resignations of three board members.

In response, Konstantina Achilleos defended her position on August 13, stating that her priority remains the institutional and transparent operation of ONEK. She attributed the inability of the board to make decisions to the vacancies left by the three resigned members and the failure of NEDISY to appoint its own representative to the council. Achilleos has invited NEDISY to resolve these issues through formal institutional channels. Furthermore, the President noted that she has already engaged the Audit Office and the Commissioner for Administration regarding the organization's current challenges to ensure proper oversight and resolution.
