Water supply crisis impacts residents and tourism in Neo Chorio, Paphos
More than 200 residents in Neo Chorio, Paphos, have been experiencing severe water supply disruptions for four to six weeks. The situation, which has worsened significantly in recent weeks, is now negatively impacting the local tourism sector, with reports of booking cancellations as visitors encounter the utility failures.
Neo Chorio Deputy Mayor Georgios Neophytou stated that the municipality is currently unable to intervene due to recent local government reforms that transferred water supply management to the District Local Government Organisation. Officials attribute the ongoing issues to an ageing network and water pressure problems, noting specifically that a major, unidentified leak within the system remains the primary cause. While the immediate disruption is recent, Neophytou emphasized that water quality and supply instability have been persistent issues for the community for over two years.
