EBU announces regulatory changes for Eurovision 2027

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced comprehensive regulatory changes for the Eurovision Song Contest, effective from 2027. Approved by the contest’s governing body following an annual assessment and feedback from participants after the 2026 event in Vienna, the updates aim to clarify competition rules, enhance production safety, and maintain the integrity of the contest. The 2027 edition is scheduled to be held in Bulgaria.

Key changes involve revised protocols for live performances and modifications to the minimum participant age. A significant shift concerns the hosting criteria: starting in 2027, the broadcaster of the winning country will no longer automatically qualify to host the following year's event if the region is affected by armed conflict, sensitive geopolitical conditions, or other factors that compromise safety. These measures are designed to modernize the competition and address the security challenges encountered in recent years.

The regulatory overhaul follows extensive reviews by the EBU to ensure that the contest remains a stable international platform. While the organization confirmed these policies to clarify obligations for broadcasters and artists, it emphasized that the priority remains the safety of all participants and the long-term stability of the international music event.
