Ryanair enters five-year cloud partnership with Google
Ryanair, Europe’s largest airline by passenger volume, announced on Wednesday a new five-year partnership with Google Cloud. The agreement entails deploying Google’s Gemini AI tools and DeepMind models across its operations to manage crew scheduling and facilitate operational decision-making. Alphabet’s Google Workspace and Google Cloud services will be provided to 35,000 employees globally as part of a strategy to reach 300 million annual passengers by 2034.
To optimize efficiency, the airline will utilize Gemini Enterprise to develop custom AI agents and employ DeepMind models, such as AlphaEvolve and WeatherNext, to assist with fleet operations and reduce disruptions. CEO Eddie Wilson highlighted that the collaboration ensures infrastructure resilience under a new dual-cloud strategy.
This initiative complements Ryanair’s existing utilization of Amazon Web Services. By adopting a dual-cloud approach, the company aims to minimize the risk of technology-related outages. The move is central to the carrier's growth plan, focusing on maintaining operational speed and reliability as it scales its network to accommodate the projected surge in passenger traffic over the next decade.
